What Is Luxury?

A Simple, But Elegant Tablescape
A Simple, But Elegant Tablescape

When you say the word “luxury” what comes to mind?  Opulent centerpieces, 4 course seated dinners, designer linens?  They are all luxury items and I have worked with many couples who have had these kinds of weddings.  But, to me, luxury is about more than that.  And, when I say that word, what I think of is peace of mind and joy.

Luxury isn't measured by the size of the centerpieces.  It isn't designer linens or a champagne tower.  Those things can certainly be beautiful and I have seen them over the last 23 years. But that's not what luxury feels like.  Luxury is walking into your ceremony knowing everything has already been handled, sharing the anticipation of meeting your partner at the end of the aisle.   Luxury is watching your parents with happy tears as your say I Do, seeing them dancing and enjoying their friends and family.   Luxury is having someone quietly solving problems before you ever know they exist.  Luxury is knowing your investment is being protected by someone who is thinking three steps ahead.  Luxury is feeling completely present as you marry the person you love, as you are introduced into the room that you imagined and planned for, as you share in the joy of this once in a lifetime event.

When couples hire me, they're not simply hiring someone to manage a timeline, they are choosing someone who will be working behind the scenes so they don't have to.  Because after all the weddings I have planned, I've learned something that no amount of money can buy on its own, the greatest luxury isn't perfection.  It's peace of mind.  And the weddings people remember most aren't always the most extravagant. They're the ones where the couple was free to laugh, celebrate, cry happy tears, dance the night away and soak in every moment without carrying the burden of making it all happen.

So, when you see “luxury wedding planner” attached to my name, understand that this is what I produce.  I have done very extravagant weddings- lots of them.  But, I have also done many, many weddings that were very personal, more modest and just as luxurious.  Because the luxury isn’t in the price tag, it is in the feeling that you get when you walk into that room and it’s the feeling that lingers long after the guests have said “Good Night”

That's what luxury means to me.
