Over the years, when a client has told me how flawless an event was, it makes me smile. Because sometimes it was. And sometimes it absolutely was not. Many times I have walked into a room before anyone else and I have seen tables not set properly, staff not ready for service, a vendor who is running late or missing pieces. But, when that happens, it is my job to solve whatever the issue is before the guests arrive.
After 40 years in hospitality, I can tell you that something almost always goes differently than expected. The difference is what happens next. Seeing the problem, knowing the impact on the entire event and being able to find the resolution is what makes the event professional the one you want in the room.
Whether it's a wedding, corporate event, fundraiser, gala or private celebration, the people hosting it should walk into their event knowing they can relax and enjoy the moment. They shouldn't be standing in a hallway trying to find the caterer, looking for a missing DJ or managing their own event. Sometimes the clearest evidence that an experienced event professional did an exceptional job is that the client has absolutely no idea what they did. That's not luck. That is the person you want to hire to manage your event.
