It's Time To Trust 40 Years of Expertise

More than 400 people responded to one of my recent posts.  I am grateful for every one of them.  But this morning, I found myself thinking about something we don't talk about enough in business.  Being seen is not the same as being trusted.  We talk constantly about visibility.  Post more, show up, engage, build your network, share your expertise, tell your story.   I've done all of that.  And, this morning I did that as a repost from someone who spoke about being real, telling something from the heart, don’t be “on stage” with what you have done or what you can do.

I've spent 40 years in hospitality, more than two decades of that 40 years  planning events. I've solved problems nobody photographed. I've protected clients from disasters they never knew were happening. I've walked into rooms where something was going wrong and quietly made it right.  And I've spent a lot of time lately making sure people know that.  They do.  They know they can trust me.  They know I show up.  They know I get dirty hands.  And, they know my worth.

So today, I'm not particularly interested in being seen.  I'm interested in being trusted.  Trusted with the couple who needs someone experienced in their corner.  Trusted with the event that cannot afford to go sideways.  Trusted with the client who needs someone who understands that hospitality isn't a performance, it's a responsibility.  Trusted with the business problem that needs somebody who can walk in, understand what's happening and get to work.

I'm not going to dress this up with a clever marketing ending.  I am looking for work.  Wedding planning. Event planning. Corporate events. Private events. Event operations. Hospitality consulting.  Paid work.  And if you've been reading my posts and thinking, Wendy knows what she's doing, today I'm asking you to do something with that thought.  Put my name in a room I'm not in.  Introduce me to the person who needs me.  Send the client who needs experienced hands my way.  Or hire me yourself.  Because after 40 years, I don't need another person to tell me I'm good at what I do.  I need one person to say: “Wendy, I trust you with my business.”  Today would be a very good day for that person to find me.

And, to the person who gave me permission to stand up and say what is in my heart, to not be afraid of being vulnerable, I say thank you.  Because I have proven myself over the last 40 years, countless times.  I have done heroic things, in the face of personal tragedy, and never flinched.  I have given credit where credit is due and I have trusted you and have sent my clients your way.  So, today, it is your turn to trust me with your client, your event, your business.  I don’t need another 400+ views on LinkedIn or Facebook or Threads.  I need YOU to trust me!
