One of the questions I'm asked most often is,  "What does a wedding planner actually do?"  The job of a planner is one of the most widely misunderstood categories in this industry. My answer hasn't changed over the years.  I don't simply plan weddings.  I advocate for my couples.  That means asking the questions they may not know to ask.  Helping them understand contracts before they sign them.  Making sure they're getting what they were promised.  Speaking up when something isn't right.  Protecting their budget.  Helping them navigate difficult conversations.  Finding solutions when unexpected challenges arise.

Sometimes advocacy looks dramatic—a venue issue, a vendor emergency, or a last-minute change.  Most of the time, it doesn't.  Most of the time it's a quiet conversation behind the scenes that prevents a problem before the couple even knows. That is the work that no one sees. And, honestly, that is exactly how it should be.

I don't believe couples should spend their engagement wondering whether someone has their best interests at heart.  They should know it.  After working with hundreds of couples over the years, I know that perfect weddings don't happen by people who simply complete a checklist.  They are created and carefully nurtured by professionals who never forget whose day it is.  Your planner shouldn't make your decisions.  Your planner should protect your ability to make the right ones.  That's what advocacy means to me.
