Contracts

The most important thing you will sign during your wedding planning isn't your venue contract.  It's every contract that follows.

Over the past few weeks, I've spoken with couples who have found themselves in heartbreaking situations.  A florist who refused to create the vision the couple had carefully planned.  A planner who insisted they could only hire vendors from a preferred list because those were the only people they wanted to work with.  A venue that charged an additional fee simply because the couple chose a vendor who wasn't on its preferred list. A vendor who tried to dictate how and where the ceremony should take place instead of listening to what mattered most to the couple.  None of those situations should come as a surprise after a contract is signed.

Before you commit to any wedding professional, ask questions.  Can I choose my own vendors?  Will you respect my vision, even if it isn't your personal style?  Are there additional fees I should know about?  What happens if our plans change?

A contract should protect both you and your vendor.  It should create clarity, not confusion, pressure, or fear.  The very best wedding professionals don't need to control your decisions.  They earn your trust by listening, communicating honestly, and helping you make informed choices.

Your wedding should reflect your priorities.  Not someone else's commission.  Not someone else's convenience.  Not someone else's ego.  After more than twenty-three years in this industry, I've learned that the right vendors don't make you feel trapped.  They make you feel supported.  That's the kind of team every couple deserves.

If you have questions about your contracts or any of your vendors, or have lost trust in someone on your vendor team, please reach out. I am happy to read any contract, answer any questions or refer you to someone who you can trust, someone who will listen and someone that respects you and your day.
