Ask For Help Before Planning Becomes A Disaster

I see this all the time, a couple starts planning. They're organized, they're capable, they have demanding careers, busy lives and a pretty good idea of what they want. So they think, we've got this, and maybe they do. Until the emails multiply, the contracts pile up, someone needs an answer, another vendor needs a decision, the hotel block becomes an ordeal, the timeline hasn't been started, family opinions get louder.

And suddenly something that was supposed to be joyful has become another job.

This is where a planner can help. My bride who sent me a text asking me to make sure all of the COI's got to the venue. My bride who called me and asked me to set up the shuttle for her guests and confirm the hotel block. My couple who asked me to order a small tiramisu cake and handle the desserts from their favorite coffee shop. My groom who didn't understand the wedding insurance and called me to ask questions. None of these things take away from their control over their weddings. It just took away the unnecessary small tasks.

Then, there was my client who was active military and in Afghanistan. She told me to "just plan it". She was overseas, she had a big job and she could not do it. She gave me her vibe and gave me the power to make the decisions. We communicated via email and she loved her wedding. To her, I was what she needed.

Here's what I wish more couples understood: You don't have to be failing at wedding planning to deserve help with it. Hiring help doesn't mean you couldn't do it yourself.

It means you've decided your time, energy and peace of mind are worth protecting. And you don't necessarily have to start over. You don't have to surrender every decision. You don't have to hand someone your wedding and disappear. You can still be deeply involved in creating it without being responsible for carrying every piece of it.

I have been planning weddings and events long enough that I've learned that some of the people who benefit most from a planner are the people perfectly capable of doing the work themselves. They simply shouldn't have to. If you're reading this thinking, “This is me.” I'm talking to you. Come talk to me. We'll figure out what needs to come off your plate, and whether I'm the right person to carry it. Let's chat- hello@angelofheartsweddings.com
